Surprisingly, the licensed LEGO Star Wars PC and console games (and most of the subsequent Indiana Jones/Batman/Harry Potter/et cetera games) turned out to be pretty good. They're tight, enjoyable adventure games with interesting construction mechanics, and humor suitable to both kids and adults. Though The LEGO Group has released more than a dozen Android titles already, their first tie-in game is LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles, available now as a free download. Just in case you didn't get your Star Wars fix with Angry Birds or pinball.
The player guides either the titular Dagobah-dweller or his Dark Side counterpart Count Dooku through eight levels, with the series' standard add-on characters, buildable vehicles, and surprisingly varied mini-games breaking up the top-down shooting and slashing. (That puts the game in between episodes two and three in movie terms, for anyone who still cares.) LEGO games of this nature are somewhere between a platformer (beat the bad guys, collect the coins) and Zelda, with plenty of puzzles and brick-based humor.
I usually download free games to try them a bit and look out for in-app purchases before posting these types of stories, but according to the Play Store, LEGO Star Wars is only compatible with my ancient HTC DROID Incredible and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, neither of which are handy. Fellow Android Police writers Cameron Summerson and Cody Toombs show a similar situation on their devices, with only older Samsung, ASUS, and HTC hardware supported at the moment. I've got a Transformer Prime TF-201 as well, but strangely, mine is showing as incompatible.
We'll chalk this up to an error with either the initial release, or one of the more common errors with the actual Play Store listing. If anyone out there in Internetland cares to give this a go and has hardware that's currently supported, let us know about it in the comments section.

Since launching for the PC and Mac in 2003, the saucy time management strategy sim Diner Dash amassed a staggering 700 million total downloads.
A good chunk of these came from iOS, where its Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning port landed back in 2008.
Since that time, Diner Dash served up a few spin-offs and revamped versions but has never crossed over to the world of Android.
That's changed this week, as the free-to-play time management game is now available on Google Play.
Kiss my grits
Diner Dash follows the adventures of Flo, a former stockbroker turned diner waitress who struggles to seat and serve customers as quickly as possible in a quest to earn a large tip.
Most anyone who's worked in the food service industry can sympathize with Flo's madcap juggling act, but Diner Dash makes the chaos fun by tasking players with seating a variety of customers ranging from busy business types to garlic-fearing vampires.
Those interested in picking up Diner Dash can grab the original free-to-play version from Google Play by clicking here or they can invest 99c / 69p in Diner Dash Deluxe.

If you're an avid Android gamer, you'll be extremely pleased to read that Stainless Games's Silver Award-winning Carmageddon is finally available to download from Google Play.
Furthermore, it's available to download for free for a 24-hour period, so - providing you act fast - you can add it to your collection without even putting your hand in your pocket.
Carmageddon was originally released back in 1997, though it was subsequently banned due to its over-the-top gory nature.
Carmageddon isn't a traditional racing title, you see. In it, you earn points for mowing down grannies and any other helpless pedestrians that are unlucky enough to stumble in front of your vehicle.
There are currently two different versions of Carmageddon on Google Play: Carmageddon Promo (the full game available for free) [download], and Carmageddon (the full game with in-app purchases) [buy].
Carmageddon Promo will be removed from Google Play at some point tomorrow. Unfortunately, Stainless Games won't be able to support this version of the title, as there's no way to update it once it's removed.
Still, it's free. Stop your moaning.
You own an iPhone or iPad, too, eh? Good news, folks: Carmageddon is free [download] for a limited time on iOS, too. Be sure to add it to your collection while it's gratis.

Caught a tantalising glimpse of Gamevil and Boolean's new freemium iOS and Android dungeon-crawler Dark Avenger on YouTube the other day. Got me all kinds of excited.
So, I did what any sane person would do in this situation... I got on the blower to the game's creator.
Turns out we don't have long to wait for Dark Avenger, folks. 12 hours, in fact.
Yep, Dark Avenger has just gone live on the New Zealand App Store, meaning UK and US iOS gamers will be able to download it from midnight.
Using the game's "smooth, intuitive controls", you will have to guide your hero through detailed dungeons and do battle with hordes of medieval minions.
Multiplayer will be a crucial element in this game, with Boolean integrating real-time PvP battles for up to six people into the Dark Avenger experience.
With three different character classes from which to choose - Templar, Archer, and Mage - we are looking forward to seeing how team composition will affect online battles.
As mentioned earlier, Gamevil has given Dark Avenger the freemium treatment. So, yes, there'll be some in-game virtual currency available to purchase. You'll also be able to earn currency organically by competing in global deathmatches and achieving in-game ranks.
You'll be able to grab Dark Avenger from the App Store in the UK and US from midnight this evening for free. It should surface on Google Play shortly after.
